Questions Set #2
Question: I wanted to know if you actually attend your high school or if you're home taught because you are so famous now and it's easier to be home taught being on the road and all? - Eve and How do you guys go to school if you train 5 nights a week, and mornings? - me
M&P. We are not home taught. We are finishing up with two classes we took via email during the tour and we will begin going to school second semester. We will go 1st and 6th-8th periods. Our morning workout at Swiss Turners is between 2nd and 5th periods.
Question: If you had one free day to do anything, what would it be? - Jenny & Courts
M. I wouldn't want one day. I would want a week.
P. I would go skydiving.
Question: Do you plan to go to college after high school?? - Jen
M&P Yes, it is a requirement in our family.
Question: Are there any specific colleges either of you are considering? - Cynthia
M&P. Yes, we are looking at Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). We plan to stay in the Milwaukee area so we can continue to train at Swiss Turners with Stacy and Andrei.
Question: How do your classmates at South treat you now that you guys are Olympians and famous? - Sarah & Kacie
M&P As we write this we are not yet back in school, but we expect our classmates to treat us generally the same. It is the teachers and administrators that treat us differently already.
Question: How tall are you guys? - Kinnie
M. 5ft. 6in.
P. 5ft. 6in.
Question: Since the red car isn't yours, what kind of car do you have? - Silver
M&P We share a Toyota Camry.
Question: What kind of car do you WISH you had? - Silver
M. Cars are not important.
P. I don't really care. A car is only a means of transportation for me, not a status symbol.
Question: Do you read your letters yourselves? - Jamie
M. I read more of them than Paul does.
P. Morgan reads more of them than I do. He's better at email and computer stuff. I always read the paper ones that come to the house or the gym.
Question: Do you ever reply personally or, do you always print out the same letter? - Jamie
M&P Yes, we reply personally when we can and it is appropriate. When we were on tour is was impossible for us to get and reply to all the mail, so we had our parents mail out a standard letter that we had signed, along with autographed photographs. It is not that we do not want to reply to each and every one individually, but we get between 50 and 100 pieces per week, so you can see how much time that would take. You want us to graduate high school don't you???
Question: How did it feel competing in the Olympics against some of the world's biggest gymnasts? - Kacie
M. It was very exciting to see how good you are compared to the world's best. I felt very honored to be there.
P. It was strange, because I had watched many of these people since I was a young gymnast.
Question: How do you feel about being recognized in public? - Stacy
M. It is pretty cool, but privacy is nice too.
P. It doesn't really bother me so far.
Question: What about homework? - "me"
M. Yeah, what about homework. I do it like everyone else.
P. Yeah, Morgan does my homework.
Question: What did you ask for from Santa? - unknown
M&P Nothing, you must mean from our parents. They have already provided for us everything we could possibly want.
Question: What is it like hanging with your teammates??? - Jenny
M&P It is a lot of fun when we can hang our together. But now we only will see them at training camps and competitions. We all miss each other already, because we got so close at the Olympics and on tour.
Question: Although u guyz r twins...but how can people tell you apart...wat'z the difference between you? - Eileen
M. It is easy to tell us apart. I am the handsome one no really, my nose is different, our faces are different. If you look at us from the back, my "ducktail" goes straight down the middle of my neck. Paul's goes down way over on the left side. Of course, you can't see that if we just got our hair cut, which we usually do before a televised event.
P. Morgan is more outgoing than I am and just a little bit taller than I am.
Question: Are both of you lefty or righty??? - Eileen
M. I am left-handed.
P. I am right-handed.
Question: Are you happy when you hear from your fans, if it is not bad? - Sonja
M. Yes, I am happy to hear from fans.
P. Yes, but it is very hard to respond to them all, and then I worry that I am disappointing them.
Question: Do you find all the teen-age girls who are screaming for you at shows/competitions to be flattering or somewhat obnoxious? - Susan
M. Mostly flattering, but it's important to keep your feet on the ground and not let that kind of attention go to your head.
P. It's never obnoxious, but it is confusing how I could be that popular.
Question: Did you two know about all those family snapshots that your dad sent out to the fan sites before he sent them? - Silver
M&P No, not before, but he told us on the phone when he made them available and had us look at them. We both thought it was cool. He didn't actually send them out all on his own. There had been requests by several operators of websites for both Christmas pictures and pictures of us when we were younger. He put them on a website of his and then told those people that they were free to come and use what they wanted.
Question: Other than the competing what was you favorite thing about being in Sydney? - Mary
M. Going downtown Sydney. It was a lot of fun to go to some of the dance clubs with our teammates.
P. Gambling in the city. Once we turned 18 years old and the competitions were over we had time to go to the casinos and it was legal. We had a blast.
Question: What inspired you to take up gymnastics and not some other sport like football or hockey? -alli
M. It was what Paul and Betsy were doing.
P. Mostly chance and that I was good at it from the beginning. My parents were having us do all kinds of things, like soccer, t-ball, piano, gymnastics, etc. and gymnastics was the thing that stuck. I was about 7 years old and Stacy Maloney was my first teacher in gymnastics. It was only a 12 week class for little kids. Several months later my dad hired him as a private coach for Morgan and me, and he has been my coach ever since.
Question: Do you guys have any superstitions, good-luck charms, or pre-meet rituals? - Ali
M&P No
Question: Do you see any changes in yourselves or each other as far as personality, actions, etc. since you competed in the Olympics? - Sarah
M. I am more open and more social.
P. Yes, we are both more outgoing and mature, but it may be as much from the tour as the Olympics.
Question: What's it like to know that people have created websites and fan clubs for you two and are true fans? - Sarah
M. It's pretty exciting to see yourself on the Internet.
P. It's cool to know that we have true fans.
Question: What do you do with fan mail, pictures, or anything else you might receive from fans - Jamie
M&P. All the emails are kept in a special folder on the computer and all the regular mail is kept in boxes after it has been processed.
Question: What did u guys get for Christmas? And what do u have planned for New Years? - Eve
M&P We got money, clothes, stuff like that. As we write this it is New Year's Day. Last night we went to a party with some high school friends and then we went to one of our coach's house for midnight.
Question: Do you actually wear that "Another South student going to the Olympics" shirt or the "Good luck" shirt? - "fan"
M&P. Yes, we have both actually worn both shirts.
Question: What do you think of Blaine Wilson sticking around for Athens 2004 - Meredith
M. We don't know that he's actually sticking around until 2004.
P. He's said he'll be around for 2001. That's all we know. But the longer he sticks around the better for us and the U.S.
Question: What do the back of the 2000 Men's Olympic Team shirts say? It looks like an astronaut landing on the moon. - Meredith
M&P It says,
"For the greatest country in the world,
at the greatest sporting event in the world,
your country is asking you to raise the flag
ARE YOU READY?"
There is a picture of the moon landing too.
Olympic T-Shirts autographed by the entire U.S. Men's Olympic Team are for sale from John Roethlisberger for $25.
If you want one, just email us and we will forward your request to John.
Question: Who hogs the bathroom more?
M&P We have separate bathrooms.
Question: Whose the worst to get to do their chores?
M&P We are rarely asked to do chores.
Question: What both of you guys' favorite shows?
M&P We like Friends (also it is on 10:00-10:30 when we are home at night)
Question: Where is the worst place you have ever gone?
M&P Don't know. Haven't been to bad places.
Question: Who was your worst teacher?
M&P No answer. Think we are dumb enough to put that in writing? We are stillin school, ya know.
Question: How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
M&P A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
