Meet 'n' Greet - Ruthie

First off, I think I should say that I never thought I'd get to meet the twins...not in a million years. That is a privilege that a few special people get, and I never really thought I'd be one of them. But my friend Bethany and I bought tickets to the Rock 'N Roll tour anyway, deciding to thoroughly enjoy the show.

We got there early and scoped out the building, hoping there was a backdoor or something where they might come out. All we saw were their buses, so we went inside and found our seats. They were in the C section...so they were pretty bad. But there was hardly anyone there, so about ten minutes into the show we moved down to the B level. The show exceeded my wildest expectations...it was so awesome! My favorite has to have been the twin's floor routine to Usher, because the synchronization was amazing! And it was funny when Paul came onstage and the DJ was saying, "Am I seeing double?" Lol;-)

Well, intermission came and we noticed that there was a doorway down on the floor that was surrounded by seats. That was where the gymnasts waited to go onstage, and there were several of the girls standing there, including Courtney McCool. I turned to Bethany---who was shy about going over there---and said, "Bethany, if we don't go over there and get some autographs I'm going to regret it forever." So we marched over there and got Courtney McCool's autograph, as well as Jojo's, Shannon Miller's, and Blaine Wilson's. Bethany wanted to sit back down, but I knew that if we hung around long enough, they would come out.

Well, right as I spoke Paul and Morgan came running past and went out onto the stage to warm up during intermission. Our jaws dropped...being so close to them seemed surreal after only seeing pictures of them and on TV...and I said, "Alright, as soon as the come back we HAVE to get their autograph!" Bethany agreed, and we waited anxiously. A few minutes before intermission was over Morgan came back, and I said as he walked past, "Morgan? Can I get an autograph?"

He looked at me and said (and yes, I'm a huge fan of the voice;-) "Ok, but real quick 'cause I have to go." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just about died. Call me a junky, but talking to Morgan so rocked! Then he signed our pictures, and with a "Thank you SO much Morgan!" he left. I turned to Bethany and said, "We just got Morgan Hamm's autograph!" It was so cool!

Paul didn't come back until right before the show started again, and we didn't get his autograph then. Bethany wanted to sit down in out regular seats, but I just couldn't. I wasn't going to leave without getting a chance to meet Paul too!

The show started, and we could actually see pretty well from our new position. And because we were standing RIGHT next to the gymnasts as they waited to go onstage, it was like hanging out with them for an hour. I could see what they were really like;-) Morgan is my new hero...he's so cool! He was so laid back and fun about giving autographs to us, and was just so sweet I loved him! I don't really think you can have a favorite twin, but before I was leaning toward Paul. Now I just can't choose!

Poor Paul seemed really stressed...and with good reason. The tour was on the 30th of September...and he'd gone to Switzerland on the 27th. I'm sure he was jetlagged and stressed about the whole medal thing. It was funny, because onstage he (of course) was smiling and looked like he was having fun, but backstage with us he acted so tired. That's partially why we didn't get his autograph until the end. I didn't want to bug him, so I decided to wait until just the right opportunity.

It didn't come until almost the last number. He was signing autographs on the other side, and I was trying to tell myself that it probably wasn't going to happen when he came and stood right next to me! Bethany nudged me and said, "It's now or never!" So I took a deep breath and said, "Paul?" and he turned. "Could I have an autograph?" I smiled. He nodded and took my picture and started signing it, but the pen I gave him didn't work, so Bethany handed him hers. After he signed hers too they all ran onstage. Bethany turned to me and said with a smile, "He touched my hand!!!" I gasped and was like, "No fair!"

I wanted to cheer him up a little, because he looked so stressed, so when he was coming back in I held out my hand and said, "Good job!" He gave me a big smile and slapped my hand. That was the crowning touch on the evening, and I must admit I floated home on cloud nine.

I doubt Paul and Morgan remember me, or really that whole evening, but I will always treasure it! Not only did I get autographs and pictures, I talked to them and got to see their real personalities (the sweetest!) Thank you so much for the awesome night, boys! Keep smiling and performing, I love you to death!

(Oh, and one more thing: the look Paul had on his face when one girl asked him to sign her hand was priceless! I almost died;-) It was so...patient! Like, "I am resolved of my fate, let's just get it over with." Hehehe! You rock, Paul!)
